SOCK PUPPETS & SELF-TALK
at The Loom Creative Studio, 376 Colorado Dr, Cedar Creek, TX 78612, USA
10 AM - 1PM
In this class, artist and Certified Gifted Intuitive Coach Krissy Teegerstrom will guide participants in making two sock puppets. One sock puppet will represent the negative voice in your head. You know, the one we all have that tells you no, you’re not good enough, don’t try the thing, etc. You will also make a sock puppet to represent the flip side of the coin: the voice that tells you you’re enough, it will be fun, and to go for it!
This class will be fun. It will also be thought-provoking. We’ll give voice to our puppets to explore how we talk to ourselves: Which voice is louder? Which is the voice of fear? Which is the voice of our intuition? Which voice needs our attention a little more?
No experience necessary. We will be doing some hand sewing.
Provided materials: Buttons, yarn, needles and thread, felt, sequins, beads.
Please bring: At least two socks, a pair of scissors or thread snippers, and your own water/beverage and snacks or packed lunch. If you have extra socks, we will share and swap with each other.
Cost: $75

PAPER TAPESTRIES FOR OUR LIVING TEMPLES
A WORKSHOP INSPIRED BY THE LIVING TEMPLE: THE WORLD OF MOKI CHERRY
at The Contemporary Austin, Jones Center, 700 Congress Ave, Austin TX
Multi-disciplinary artist Moki Cherry, along with her partner, the legendary jazz musician Don Cherry, would create immersive, joyful happenings with music and art under the banners of "Movement Incorporated" and "Organic Music." With her appliqué textile tapestries as backdrops, Moki could transform any space into a visual reflection of their shared values that championed ecology, spirituality, feminism, and home as both stage and subject.
In this workshop, Austin-based artist Krissy Teegerstromintroduces her vibrant, textile works that stem from her own intuition and personal narrative. Krissy will then guide participants through a short exercise to help envision what matters most to you and to translate those values into personal symbols.
From there, you'll use these symbols to map out and collage your own paper tapestry, a piece that is meant to live somewhere meaningful in your life, at home or beyond.
If you are a practicing textile artist, this can also serve as a draft for future work. For this particular workshop, no sewing, textile, or prior art experience is required.
Cost: $75
